Namibia is Africa’s premier desert hiking destination — a vast, sparsely populated country where the world’s oldest desert (the Namib, 55 million years old) meets towering red sand dunes, ancient rock art, dramatic canyon systems and wildlife-rich savanna. The Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world, and the Fish River Canyon Hiking Trail (5 days, 85km) is one of Africa’s great wilderness walks. Namibia’s extraordinary light, silence and geological drama make it a photographer’s paradise and a hiker’s dream.
