 – Short Description: SONG-KOL LAKE (Сон-Күл, 3,016m) = Kyrgyzstan’s MOST ICONIC NOMADIC EXPERIENCE — a vast high-altitude lake (270km² surface) ringed by rolling jailoo meadows dotted with white yurts. The lake NEVER FREEZES even in deep winter (underground thermal activity). From June to September: 100+ nomadic families set up yurt camps along the shore — their horses, yaks, sheep, and cows graze freely in all directions. SUNSET + SUNRISE: extraordinary light on the lake + surrounding peaks. HORSEBACK RIDING: essential at Song-Kol — horses available for rent at every camp (USD 15–20/day, negotiable). KUMISS: freshly fermented mare’s milk served at every yurt — an acquired taste but central to Kyrgyz culture.
